Chatfield | ||||||||
Chatfield | This station was on Bench Street just NW of 1st Street SW at GPS: 43.845445, -92.192226. This portion of Bench Street no longer exists as it now ends at 1st Street SW. It was built in 1878. This station was just south of the county line in Fillmore County.
Fountain (Summit) |
This station, built in 1896, was on the east side of Main Street just south of Second Street at GPS: 43.740720, -92.136035. This first station here was built in 1870 by the Southern Minnesota RR. That station was rebuilt in 1891 (not sure if that meant it replaced the earlier station or was just an upgrade of the original) (Chatfield Democrat, 11-27-1891) prior to the "new" station being built in 1896.
Isinours | There was a 22' x 60' frame combination depot at Isinours which was a typical standard depot for the Southern Minnesota line.
Isinours | In later years there was a simple, small sheter here. It is pictured in the November 5, 1967 edition of the Winona Daily News.
LANESBORO | This is the original building upon which the replica station was patterned. It was built in 1886 and torn down sometime in the late 1970s. Later in its life it received a new roof and some other modifications that gave it a different look. It sat on what is now called Milwaukee Road at the site where the replica depot is today (GPS: 43.721659, -91.975926).
Mabel (Monroe) |
This station was at the south end of Main Street at Alpine Avenue at GPS: 43.518930, -91.769710. It was torn down in Summer or Fall of 2008.

Notes About Existing Stations... Canton (CMSt.P&P) - The station was originally built for the Caledonia, Mississippi, and Western RR, a narrow gague line that ran from Reno to Preston through Caledonia. The line was acquired by the Milwaukee Railroad in 1880 and the depot was moved one mile west to where it sits now. The line was converted to standard gauge in 1901. Here is an old photo showing the depot photographed from the top of the mill when the railroad was still in service. After many years of private ownership, the station is now owned by the Canton Area Historical Society and is on the National Register. Lanesboro (Replica) - This is a replica of the original CMStP&P station that was here. It is a very plain building as was the original station. It serves as the home of the Lanesboro Chamber Of Commerce. Peterson (CMSt.P&P) - This station was relocated one block from its original location. Prosper (CMSt.P&P) - Owned by Prosper Lumber Co. and used for storage. It appears to be on the original site. The town of Prosper is no longer incorporated. The Lumber company address is Mabel, MN, the nearby community. The owner of Prosper Lumber, Allan Daul, also owns the depot at Harmony and is responsible for restoring it. Rushford (CMSt.P&P) - Built by CMStP&P predecessor line Southern Minnesota Railroad. Whalan (CMSt.P&P) - This station was moved about a hundred feet north of its original location on the north side of Main Street between 2nd and 3rd Streets on the south side of the tracks at GPS: 43.732510, -91.927675. |
